Tirta Gangga Village, Karangasem Regency, Bali

A beautiful water palace built by the late King of Karangasem in 1946, Tirta Gangga literally translates into ‘water from the Ganges’ and it is a revered site for the Hindu Balinese. A lovely labyrinth of pools and fountains enveloped in an opulent garden and stone carvings are what make Tirta Gangga a must-see destination. The centerpiece of the palace is an 11-tiered fountain and there are many beautiful carvings and statues adorning the gardens.  For a small fee, visitors can bathe in the royal pools. Tirta Gangga sits on a lush one-hectare complex and was almost entirely destroyed by the eruption from nearby Mount Agung in 1963; however, it has since been restored to its original splendor.

The area around Tirta Gangga is noted for its rice paddy terraces. Tirta Gangga Water Palace is in the Eastern part of Bali. It is a very peaceful place and wonderful to just sit and listen to the water and watch the huge Koi swimming around.
