This picturesque water palace located in central Ubud is the seat of Ubud's royal Sukawati family.  The famous Balinese stone sculptor and architect I Gusti Nyoman Lempad was invited here in 1898 by the King of Ubud and assigned with the task of constructing this lotus pond, water palace and garden in homage to the Hindu goddess of learning and art, Saraswati.  Daily dance performances occur here regularly.

Waters from the temple at the rear of the site feed the pond in the front, which overflows with pretty lotus blossoms. There are carvings that honour Dewi Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom and the arts, who, it is said, clearly gives her blessings to Ubud. There are weekly dance performances by night; by day painters set up easels. This temple is decorated with so many fine carvings; there is the Padmasana shrine located in the northeast, but it also contains bale barong, giant masks, statues of Goddess Saraswati and the statue of the devil Jero Gede Mecaling as high as 3 meters in front of the temple.
