Dedicated to Batubulan’s village founder, this pura whose name translates to ‘central temple’ is most notable for it’s lotus moat and impressive gateway that is a prime example of the stone carving skills of the area’s local artisans.  The intricate statues and carvings that depict Balinese mythology as well as Buddhist and Hindu iconography may look ancient but they are actually expertly replicated from library books borrowed from the Archaeological Service.

Batubulan, which means "moonstone" is a village situated half way between Denpasar to Ubud. It is famous for its stone carving. As one drives through the village, the sights of intricate stone statues displayed along the road seem very beautiful.

In the Pura Puseh temple the beautiful and detailed carvings of deities throughout the temple mesmerize one. At the entrance - there are two tall towers, each adorned with carved stone figures of Nandiswara and Mahakala. These figures, offer spiritual protection. Ornate carvings embellish the walls, and various pavilions stand within the serene temple grounds. Some of these pavilions are simply used for storage, while others host ritual dances and ceremonies. Carved elephants positioned at the base of most of the temple’s pillars symbolize the strength and stability needed to bear the monument above it.

The colours within the temple have meaning. The black-and-white-chequered cloths displayed throughout represent the balance of good and bad, positive and negative, yin and yang. It is believed that one feels a sense of peace at this sacred site.
