This central temple in Sukawati is a pilgrimage site for all members of the royal houses of the surrounding areas – Tegallalang, Peliatan, Ubud, Batuan, Mas, Negara, and Singapadu. The original temple was destroyed by an earthquake in 1917, and the temple has since then been rebuilt on a smaller scale. Pura Penataran Agung Sukawati is one of Sukawati’s most important temples, regardless of its current physical size.
