Quite likely Bali’s most visited and photographed temple, the iconic Tanah Lot temple (‘Sea Temple of The Earth’) occupies an incredibly dramatic position atop a black rocky outcrop that juts into the sea.  It was said to have been created by Hindu sage Danghyang Nirartha in the 16th century out of his sheer reverence to the natural beauty of the landscape.  Located in Beraban Village, it is one of Bali’s seven important sea temples and as intended with Sad Kahyangan temples of significance, Pura Uluwatu is visible to the south and Pura Perancak near Negara, to the west.
