As the largest and holiest temple in this regency, Pura Kehen (from kuren, or house temple) serves as the residence of the spirits of the kingdom of Bangli and is where all its kings were crowned. This important ancestral temple located in Cempaga Village was built on a hillside in the 11th century by Sri Brahma Kemuti Ketu and features eight terraced platforms and megalithic stone construction as well as a 700-year old banyan tree.  The highest courtyard in this pura complex contains an 11-tiered meru dedicated to Brahma the lord of fire while an ornately carved padmasan trisakti (three seater) shrine to the holy Hindu trinity.
