Also on the periphery of Puputan Square and directly adjacent to Bali Museum is an important temple dedicated to the supreme deity of Balinese Hindu, Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, whose gilded likeness sits majestically atop a massive lotus throne of white coral.  It was built as a yagat (world) temple and is the only Pura in Bali built to one god with an ornamental padmasana (central altar) that features the mythical Balinese tortoise Bedawang Nala and two naga (dragon) plinths that represent creation. Walls are decorated with various carvings and scenes from traditional stories.

It is also the Pura that takes the place of the home temples for many of Denpasar’s Hindus who have moved from distant villages with the biggest ceremony days being on the full moon and new moon of each month, and feature wayang kulit (leather shadow puppet) performances.

Pura Jagatnatha almost always has worshipers inside and it is often closed to the public though recently for specific times periods it has been opened up to the public too.
