This gorgeous palace is set in the center of Ubud, Bali with a traditional art market just in front of it. Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel who commanded from year 1800 - 1823 founded it. This was the palace of the Kings of Ubud until the 1940s, and some royal descendants live there to this day. Parts of the complex are off limits to the public, but entry to the rest is free.

The Royal Palace contains several pavilions housing ornate musical instruments. Dance performances are held here most evenings for a fee.
