The state temple Pura Jagatnatha (Temple of the Rulers of the Worlds) was constructed in 1953 and is located in Denpasar on Jl. Mayor Wishnu. It is the only temple dedicated to just one God, the supreme God of Balinese Hinudism, Sanghyang Widi. Although the Balinese recognize many Gods, the belief in one supreme God (who can have many manifestations) brings Balinese Hinduism into conformity with the first principle of Pancasila – the ‘Belief in One God.

A gold statue in his likeness sits atop a seven-tiered throne of white coral with a central altar (padmasana) dedicated to Shiva that rests on the shell of the turtle Bedawangnala and two dragons. The walls are decorated with carvings of scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Surrounding the temple is a large pond filled with giant Koi fish. Two major festivals are held here every month, during the full moon and new moon, and feature wayang kulit (leather shadow puppet) performances.
