Pura Maospahit is one of the most important and ancient temples of the island which highlights the fact that the sacred thread of spiritualism runs deep throughout the country. The temple also reflects the strong cultural and spiritual belief of the people of Indonesia. Ideally located to the west of the main area it is also one of the top most places chosen by the travelers while Sightseeing in Bali.

Hidden behind a high brick wall in the historic village of Gerenceng in Denpasar, it dates back to the14th century when Hinduism was first introduced to the island.  Entrance to the temple is via an impressive candi bentar (split gate) and on the pillars of the gate are statues of the deities Sangkara, Indra, Yama, Bayu, Garuda, Kubera and Waruna. The architecture mirrors the classic touch of the bygone era. Fabricated in red brick and slim-lined, the shrines are the real eye catcher. They are suggestive of East Javanese shrines whose origin can be traced back to the Majapahit era of 12th-14th century AD. Pura Masopahit in Bali is in a way a reflection of the supreme art and cultural history of Bali.
