Held at least two times annually on Sash Kasah (the first month in the Balinese calendar) in the village of Timbrah in the Karangasem Regency, this very unique ceremony called Ngusaba Dalem or Ngusaba Guling involves offering hundreds of roast suckling pigs (babi guling) to Ida Batari Durga (Lord Shiva’s consort) as a token of gratitude and request for a prosperous life and longevity. Every household from the village raises at least two pigs that are slaughtered, prepared and offered up in several large piles in the Pura Dalem Desa Pakraman Timbrah. In 2011 there were thousands of roast suckling pigs that were offered during the ceremony. A similar ceremony called Ngusaba Gumang is held every two years on the fourth month of the Balinese calendar and involves residents of the Bugbug, Jasri, Ngis, Manggis and Bebandem villages who hike up a large hill to the Bukit Gumang Temple where they offer hundreds of roast sucking pigs to the deities.
