Celebrated every 210 days in sync with Kuningan, the ancient ritual of Perang Jempana (Sacred Battle of the Deities) is held at the Pura Panti Timbrah in Paksebali Village, Bangli Regency. The Perang Jempana is held in the late afternoon and involves dozens of young men from the village carrying effigies of various deities on beautifully decorated palanquins. The bearers go into a trance brought on by the accompanying gamelan orchestra that leads them to run around the temple grounds chasing and bashing into each other. The ceremony continues for hours concluding with a blessing after which the effigies are placed back into their specific areas of the temple.
