This highly notable month long Bali Arts Festival takes place every second Saturday in June till the second Saturday in July. From gamelan orchestras to local handicrafts to wayang kulit shadow puppets to legendary Balinese dances – contemporary, traditional and from all regions of the island - this annual celebration of Balinese culture is immensely popular amongst local folks who flock to the Taman Budaya (Bali Art Center) in Denpasar to enjoy the performances that are held on a temple-like stage in an amphitheater that can hold up to 6,000 spectators. The Opening Ceremony in particular is usually quite a spectacle. Already in effect for over three decades and with performers chosen from every regency in the island, this event is a true representation of the many unique and dynamic aspects of Balinese culture.
