Every temple in Bali has a historical legacy in the form of statues, pelinggih and the temple building itself. The name of the temple Gaduh” originated from the word “gagaduhan”, meaning, shrine to the King of Bali. This is the place from where a sacred king ruled and later transformed into a place of worship.

A massive stone head sculpture of the mythical giant Kebo Iwa, which has a face with bulging eyes, big ears, curly hair and protruding canines; atop a raised shrine presides over this unusual 14th century temple in the village of Blahbatu, located atop a steep stairway shaded by trees. He is said to have created most of the unexplained stone monuments in Gianyar with his fingernails.  This monumental statue survived the earthquake of 1917 that destroyed the original temple structure. This temple is located approximately 21 miles from Denpasar, Bali.
