    Sibetan Village, Karangasem Regency, Bali

The cool, hilly village of Sibetan is proclaimed to be the area with the best salak fruit (the sweet-sour snakeskin fruit) in the entire country, having been harvested in Bali for over 450 years.  Take a hike among the plantation valleys here but be mindful of the thorny salak trees.  If returning via the village of Bebandem, make a stop at Budakling where two castes of Brahmana Buda sect families reside as well as descendants of metal smiths who used to serve the court of Karangasem.  And towards the eastern end of Budakling is the mountain hamlet of Tanah Aron where at the end of a 45-minute hike is a bas-relief commemorating the Ngurah Rai guerillas and their resistance movement against the Dutch.  A spectacular vista also awaits visitors here, with views across steep ravines that overlook the entire southern Karangasem region.

The village itself is quiet and traditional, blessed with cool, clean air and a feeling of true serenity. A stroll around the village roads offers breathtakingly beautiful vistas of mountains, palm trees, ant-like villages and in the distance, the blue ocean. Dukuh Sibetan is comprised of and surrounded by, salak gardens and forest, riddled with tiny paths. A beautiful pond, full of stories and mythology, sits at the bottom of a high cliff dripping with vines and spring water. The villagers invite you to try and feel the spirit of the place.

The village of Sibetan welcomes visitors to witness their excellent fruit and superb scenery. Signs have been posted in strategic places to make it easy to reach from Candidasa, following the route to Amlapura and turning left towards Bebandem on arrival at Subagan village. Alternatively, you can take the road from Klungkung to Besakih. Several kilometers before arriving at Besaki Village turn into the road, which leads to the Selat District, and eventually you arrive at Sibetan.
