Also known as Air Panas (hot water) and located on Lake Batur’s western shore is the village of Toya Bungkah which is known for its therapeutic hot springs that flow into cement-lined pools on the lake front with its black sand beach.  The sulfurous spring water, which is heated by the volcano and bubbles up from the lake, is known to soothe muscles and cure maladies such as rheumatism.  For an extra invigorating experience try jumping Japanese-style from the hot springs into chilly Lake Batur.

Do not think too much when you see the road. It is like a "roller coaster" but probably one of the safest roads in Bali as everyone is especially careful. The road leads down to the lake Batur, traversing the hardened lava to the hot springs of Toya Bungkah, where there is a public bathing area - the "natural sauna". Volcanic mineral springs seep into the lake and a dip in the public bathing area is believed to cure sicknesses. This is the base camp area for people who want to climb Mount Batur and has a hot spring presumed to have therapeutic traits, Toya Bungkah is one of the most interesting sites around Batur crater area.
